The TPS709 series of linear regulators are ultralow, quiescent current devices designed for powersensitive applications. A precision band-gap and error amplifier provides 2% accuracy over temperature. Quiescent current of only 1 µA makes these devices ideal solutions for battery-powered, alwayson systems that require very little idle-state power dissipation. These devices have thermal-shutdown, current-limit, and reverse-current protections for added safety. Shutdown mode is enabled by pulling the EN pin low. The shutdown current in this mode goes down to 150 nA, typical.

When empty or fully loaded with deactivated drivers, these transceivers use between 120µA and 500µA of supply current. The MAX481, MAX483, and MAX487 also offer a low-current shutdown mode where they use just 0.1µA. A single 5V supply powers every component. The thermal shutdown circuitry, which converts the driver outputs into a high-impedance condition, limits the short-circuit current of the drivers and protects them from excessive power dissipation. If the receiver input is open circuit, a fail-safe mechanism ensures a logic-high output.
